Like many businesses and professions nowadays, there is a gradual move towards adopting e-commerce, where to do so will provide an enhanced service for customers and clients.
The notary’s profession is no exception to this. A number of Notaries in England and Wales have already embraced e-commerce and are able to provide electronic versions of Notarial acts and instruments and in a secure environment.
The electronic Notary uses his digital certificate to provide electronically signed and sealed documents which are ready for dispatch by email anywhere in the world.
Not only is this an environmentally sound way to produce important documents, but also is much faster and cheaper than using paper and couriers. Like many new methods, it will take time for electronic copies of documents to be accepted everywhere.
Also, the process of legalisation needs to be adapted to the electronic form. The Society is in discussion with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to achieve this as soon as possible.
I am able to provide the services of an e-Notary and if you have any questions about this or would like your documents to be digitally signed and provided in electronic form, please mention this to me.
